The congregation originated at Denmark, Tennessee, west of Jackson, Tennessee on three acres of land acquired from Jeff French about 1/4 of amile from a dense forest where the Civil War was frought.
In 1871, the church was organized under the guidance of Rev. Dave Jeffers. Seven men was appointed to oversee the building of the church by the group, and became the first deacons of the church.
The church selected Rev. Perry Freeman to serve without pay. Since his services were so pleasing at the end of the year, he was elected as pastor, and served for ten years. After his death Rev. Timothy Ford was elected ,and he served as a strong leader for 16 years. The membership grew from 50 to 150 under his leadership. He organized the Sunday School, and prayer meeting once a month.
In 1912, the congregation had grown from 250 members to 700. Rev. J.T. Dodson was elected as pastor, he served faithfully for 14 years, under his leadership many ministries were organized, the W.M.S., B.T.U. , and Choir.
In 1915, a new church was erected under the leadership of Rev. Dodson, who later resigned in 1927. After his departure we had many strong spiritual leaders
The church was badly in need of a new building, under the leadership of Rev. A. Hardaway, the building fund was started.
Denmark Missionary Baptist Church has been instrumental in the training of God's messengers, many members have answered the call to go spread the gospel.
In 2002, God guided Dr. Daniel L. Bufford, to shepherd his people. In 2006, under Pastor Bufford's leadership we purchased 19 1/2 acres of land. Pastor Bufford has organized several ministries. He has a vision for the church as we move into the 21st century.
